Day 2 - San Jose

We arrived at the clinic with hillside and set up make shift exam tables. Hillside was also doing general health. Kit, the NP, and I took turns doing Pap smears and teaching our group about General women's health. I discussed the approach to lower abdominal pain in women. Overall as a group we did 10 pelvic exams.

Afterwards we piled in the truck and headed down to the next village, San Bonito. We went on a long car ride on some rough roads to get here. Once we arrived we had to speak with one of the town leaders, the Acolade, about staying in the church kitchen as there are beams across the thatched roof to hang hammocks. Our other option was sleeping on floor in the community center - which had scorpions...

The Acolade had to discuss this with one of the church elders / ultimately we are sleeping in the church kitchen now. It's a short walk down to the pit latrines which are made out of cinder blocks. They are quite smelly.

We had colado for dinner (spicy broth, chicken, potatoes) with lots of tortillas to dip. We were given a hot cacao drink with dinner. There were chickens running around in the house as they were preparing food and a well taken care of appearing cat hanging out In The kitchen. The cat payed no attention to the chickens. There were several a dogs that peeked In the door - also uninterested in the cat and chickens. So odd.
One of the hosts offered to take our picture on my camera. She then Proceeded to look through every photo on my camera. Sorta odd- but asked me where many of the photos were from. So interesting for someone to see my life which is so very different in my photos. - which were mainly from vacations and mtn medicine courses.
After dinner we headed back to our makeshift home. I think I fell asleep around 8 pm and slept all night until the chickens and roosters started around 4am.
